It’s time once again for another Book Club episode with friends new and old! Nelson Franklin, Robyn Clark, Ele Woods, Kerrie Kvashay-Boyle, and John Ross Bowie join Nate to discuss “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John Mandel. It is a science fiction novel that takes place in the Great Lakes region after a fictional disease, the “Georgia Flu,” has devastated the world, killing most of the population.

Nate welcomes back Book Club vets Nelson Franklin and John Forest for the 8th edition of the Book Club series of Reading Aloud in which they discuss Stephen King’s novel “11/22/63.” They’ll talk about the sometimes distracting modern turns of phrase, how the time traveling character felt like it was close to being the real Stephen King, what the deal was with The Card Men, the creepy Lee Harvey Oswald, and of course the sexy stuff. Nate is joined by the very special handsome guests Nelson Franklin, John Forest, and maybe John Ross Bowie for the 5th edition of the Book Club series of Reading Aloud in which they discuss Richard Price’s “The Whites.” They’ll talk about being engrossed in the gritty crime drama following 5 cops called The Wild Geese, the creepy Milton Ramos character, and how the writer assumes that the reader knows all of the police jargon. Nate brings you the first all Non-fiction episode and has the hilarious Nelson Franklin start things off by reading a Chuck Klosterman piece entitled “The Pretenders.” Then, writer, producer, and former political operative Eli Attie joins Nate in the studio to chat about being the campaign speechwriter through Gore’s concession of the 2000 presidential election, growing up in a family of readers, and some of the political books that he enjoys. Finally, Nate finishes things by playing two pieces of political theatre that he loves – Mr. Rogers going in front of the US Senate to defend PBS and Robert F. Kennedy’s speech after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.
