Owen Wiseman

Owen Wiseman was raised by hippies in the Pacific Northwest, and fed a steady diet of appropriate books and inappropriate movies. In seventh grade, he was accidentally put into a Japanese class. When he arrived at Pomona College and started studying philosophy, Owen started really exploring the canon of great Eastern thought, from Confucius and Lao-Tzu to Yagyu Munemori and Miyamoto Musashi. His comic book – Samurai’s Blood – is in stores now.

What is a podcast? Do podcasts even exist? If you put a podcast in a box with poison and you aren’t looking, is the podcast alive or dead? Are these questions getting annoying? Would you rather me just tell you what the episode is about? Can you tell yet that it is about existentialism? Are you excited to have “cartoon book” author Owen Wiseman back on the show? Will you listen to this episode? Have I figured out how I’m going to end this chain of questions?

Wait and see, when we’re through, boys will gladly go to war for you. With good fortune (and a great hairdo) you’ll bring honor to us all. That’s right, it’s time for the much-anticipated Mulan episode! Kidding, of course. We have our first write-in guest, Owen Wiseman, who brings a vast knowledge of the Japanese feudal system to the hatch and discusses the concept of honor with Tig, Kyle, and David. What’s the difference between morality and honor? Is it wrong to steal food for one’s family? Since when is condescension a bad thing? And which of our podcasters is the most honorable? Listen in and find out!
