EP. 247 — Beautiful Resolutions for 2021
1 minute, no names, no holds barred. Geth takes 1 minute New Year’s resolutions for 2021. Starting a garden, coming out to the family, making the perfect pancake, and many more.
247 — Beautiful Resolutions for 2021
CHRIS [00:00:05] Hello to everybody writing in your funky notebook. It’s Beautiful Anonymous. One hour, a whole lot of phone calls, a couple names sliped through, definitely no holds barred.
THEME MUSIC [00:00:15] I’d rather go one on one, I think it’ll be more fun, then I’ll get to know you and you’ll get to know me.
CHRIS [00:00:28] Hi, everybody, it’s Chris Gethard and I want to thank you for a great year of Beautiful Anonymous, I have always said and I think anybody who’s listening for a while has heard me say this. And I think you have heard me mean it and I mean it more than ever. You get to connect with people. I’m in this beautiful position. People call me, I get to connect with them. I get to make you guys feel like you’re connecting with them. And this year in particular, it really helped me get through me personally. You guys all helped me get through. Thank you for listening. Thank you for calling. I mean it. Now you’re about to hear our annual New Year’s resolution episode. If you’ve been listening for for more than a year, you know, we always do a New Year’s episode where we just get as many calls as we can. One minute calls your New Year’s resolutions. We put up the prompt in the Facebook group this year as a thank you to everybody who is in the Facebook group. So these are all callers who are part of the Beautiful Anonymous Facebook community. Thank you all so much for hanging out. It was great to hear from all of you. So many different ones. Deep ones, funny ones. Good time. And there’s something I just need to call out. Anita Flores came onto the show this year and has been crushing it and doing a great job and working so hard on the show. But there’s something that happens about maybe two thirds to three quarters of the way through that I really just throw her right under the bus. And just so everybody knows, I’m clearly kidding. Everybody listening, I think, is gonna go oh right, that’s what happens when you only have a minute. But there’s there’s a very dark humor moment in there where I really I really give Anita the business and I want everybody to know Anita is the sweetest person on planet Earth. And that was me being a jerk for your amusement. All right, everybody, it was a great year. I hope we get to do so many more phone calls. And I feel lucky that I get to live this life. And I feel like we’re moving on from one of the worst years we’ve ever lived. And thank you all for calling in and and helping me get through it.
PHONE ROBOT [00:02:33] Thank you for calling Beautiful Anonymous, a beeping noise will indicate when you are on the show with the host.
CALLER [00:02:41] Hello.
CHRIS [00:02:42] Hello. You are the first caller on our annual New Year’s resolution episode. Are you ready for your minute to begin?
CALLER [00:02:50] Yes, I am.
CHRIS [00:02:51] All right. Thank you so, so much for calling and breaking the seal on this one. Your minute starts now.
CALLER [00:02:56] OK, so my resolution is to continue to work on my mental health because the first time I seeked help through therapy and medication, a lot to do with the insistence of those on your podcast, including you. And just like you said in the past, I should have done it years earlier. I feel great. I feel hopeful and optimistic for the future, despite how terrible 2020 was. So I just hope to continue working on myself.
CHRIS [00:03:30] I love that.
CALLER [00:03:31] In that regard.
CHRIS [00:03:31] I love it. Flattered to be a part of that conversation and so many of our callers as well. And I wish you nothing but the best because that’s a hard thing to start. But it’s so rewarding and I’m happy to hear that you’re in it.
CALLER [00:03:45] OK, good. Thanks a lot. And it’s just it feels good to admit that you need help and to realize that it’s actually a strength and not a weakness.
CHRIS [00:03:54] All right. Beautiful. Thank you so much. What a great beginning. Let’s patch through the next caller. Hello.
CALLER [00:04:03] Hello.
CHRIS [00:04:04] Hi, how are you?
CALLER [00:04:06] Hi, Chris, how are you?
CHRIS [00:04:08] I’m good, your minute begins now.
CALLER [00:04:11] Awesome, my resolution, I think this year is to be a better listener, you know, that whole thing where they say, like a lot of people listen to talk or reply instead of listening to actually listen. And sometimes I find myself doing that. So I just want to be a better listener and really engage with people and connect with people.
CHRIS [00:04:35] That’s great. I tell you, I feel like that’s one of my resolutions, too, because believe it or not, for a guy who professionally listens on this show, not the best listener with people in my real life all the time. So I’m going to step up my game on that, too.
CALLER [00:04:48] I was going to say I thought maybe you had mastered that, but it’s good to know that we share that common ground.
CHRIS [00:04:55] Yeah, it’s actually extraordinarily frustrating. Like when my wife is in a fight going, you aren’t listening, you’re supposed to be mister listening. It can it can be a little awkward at times. So we’re on the same page. Thank you so much for calling. Let’s go ahead. Let’s get our next call patch in through. We’re up and running. I forgot that this is exhausting, but we’re going to get through it together. We’re in call three is the first time I’ve mentioned that it’s exhausting. Hello. Are you on the line?
CALLER [00:05:22] Chris?
CHRIS [00:05:22] Yes, your minute begins now. Welcome to the show.
CALLER [00:05:26] Hey. Dude, this has been a dream of mine to call in, but I’ll make it quick. My resolution is to actually write something because I’m a big fan of reading, whether it’s comics, books, whatever the hell I can get a hold of. And I have a bunch of ideas that I have taken my sweet time just trying to figure something out. And I figured, you know, I need to get my ass in gear so I can at least get something written down and go from there.
CHRIS [00:05:52] Amazing, I’ve been working hard to generate stuff as well. Can I ask you read a lot of comics, any recommendations for me? Because, you know, I love a good Marvel comic.
CALLER [00:06:02] Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Like, that’s that’s what my favorite marvel. But I also read a lot of stuff from Image and Boom. And I would recommend a book called Seven Secrets from Boom. It’s a really fantastic book written by Tom Taylor, who’s written a couple of Marvel things over the years, and I would highly recommend that one.
CHRIS [00:06:19] Love that. Thank you for the call. Happy New Year. I can’t wait to read what you write. Let’s get our next call. Patching through. Hello. Are you here?
CALLER [00:06:31] Hello, Chris?
CHRIS [00:06:32] Thank you so much for calling. Your time begins now.
CALLER [00:06:35] Hi. Oh, this is awesome to get through. Yeah. I guess my New Year’s resolution this year is to take better care of myself, but also to foster the relationships in my life a little bit more and to put those a little bit more first. So.
CHRIS [00:06:53] What a beautiful thing, do you feel like 2020 has increased the need for that, like is it exacerbating that lack of connection you feel in some relationships?
CALLER [00:07:04] Definitely. Even even just with my partner, who I live with, it’s been a really hard year for everybody. And my dad already struggles mentally. So I definitely want to start putting those first just as much of myself. But, you know, remembering to take the time to look into those too, even when I’m having a hard time looking at anything past what I can just do right now. So.
CHRIS [00:07:26] I love that, and I wish you nothing but the best in finding that balance. I think that’s beautiful. All right, let’s get our next one poppin off. What do we got? I think we’re on number six, we’re cooking with fire. Hello. Cooking with fire.
CALLER [00:07:41] Hi.
CHRIS [00:07:42] Hi. Your minute begins now. Thank you for calling.
CALLER [00:07:45] Oh, my God the Canadian in me is dying to ask you how you are, but I’m going to avoid that because I know I have only one minute. My resolution this year is to not have a resolution because I went into this year with a lot of big plans and a lot of expectations and obviously a lot of them fell through. So I’m trying to be open and see what comes at me instead of being held up on a plan cause that did not go well for me.
CHRIS [00:08:10] I love that. Also, I’m doing fine, my sweet Canadian friend and our producer Anita listened back to last year’s episode and said it’s kind of kind of scary to hear everyone making optimistic resolutions for 2020. So I think hedging your bets and no resolutions this year. Smart call smart call.
CALLER [00:08:30] I’m 23. I was going to start I started grad school this year. I was supposed to travel. I was supposed to move out. There was a lot of things that were supposed to happen. The only thing that did happen was I started grad school and I survived my first semester. So partial yay!
CHRIS [00:08:43] Love that. Thank you for calling. I hope that all the other things get going again in 2021 that you get everything back on that one. OK, who’s our next caller. Welcome to the show. Hello.
CALLER [00:08:58] Hi, this is [beep].
CHRIS [00:09:00] The name of the show’s Beautiful Anonymous, but I’ll cut you some slack. Let’s go ahead. Your minute begins now.
CALLER [00:09:07] Thank you. I’m a longtime fan. My New Year’s resolution this year is to finally start my gardening business. I’ve had the idea for a really long time. I have two young kids and a corporate job and I just would love to do something that is more toward my passion.
CHRIS [00:09:24] I love that. Ever since I moved out here to these suburbs slash country. I’m loving lawn maintenance and quick 25 seconds of basic gardening tips.
CALLER [00:09:40] Plant whatever kind of seed you’re interested in, plant it lots of different places and you’ll be surprised where you thought it might not grow, it might do the best.
CHRIS [00:09:51] I feel like that’s a metaphor for life.
CALLER [00:09:54] Aw, yeah, I never thought of it that way.
CHRIS [00:09:57] Good luck to you in this business. I maybe someday if you’re in New Jersey, I will hire you for all of my gardening needs. OK, next caller, let’s get this going. Welcome. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:10:10] Hi. So excited to be on the show. My New Year’s resolution is to come out to my family and to the world.
CHRIS [00:10:16] Wow, that’s huge. Congratulations. You are ready. I mean that. In five seconds you just you came in and slam dunked that. Do you know how you’re going to do this?
CALLER [00:10:29] I am not sure. Some of my friends know, but not everyone knows. So I have kind of a conservative family, and so that’s going to be the hardest part of it. But I just by the way, I love the show. I love what you do.
CHRIS [00:10:45] Thank you so much.
CALLER [00:10:45] I’m kind of nervous even talking to you. But yeah, I think, you know, I think that in this day and age, you should be able to be happy with who you truly are and who you love.
CHRIS [00:10:55] One thousand percent in agreement. And I bet your family is just going to embrace you for who you are. And if not, guess what? You find a chosen family out there and you find that love because there’s a lot of love out there. OK, thank you for calling. Next caller.
CALLER [00:11:14] Hi.
CHRIS [00:11:14] Yes, what is your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:11:19] Well, the last couple of weeks, my life kind of fell apart with my job and I think I’m finally in the covid depression, so I figured I’m going to make the perfect pancake next year.
CHRIS [00:11:29] The perfect pancake.
CALLER [00:11:31] Is my resolution, the perfect pancake.
CHRIS [00:11:34] You said covid destroyed, covid depression job thing. I’m going to get a new better job. I’m going to go for that passion that I was at. No, no, no. Now what makes a perfect pancake pancake?
CALLER [00:11:46] Well, I like blueberries, bananas, strawberries. I’m just going to go for it. I’m going to experiment because I was making pancakes recently and realized I really let myself down in not making pancakes this year.
CHRIS [00:12:00] You need more pancakes.
CALLER [00:12:00] I want to talk to my therapist. I’ll continue that.
CHRIS [00:12:03] Is it flavor? Is its shape? Is it a combo of both that will certify it as perfect?
CALLER [00:12:09] It’s got to be the flavor and the fluffiness, too. Like right now they’re just flat. There have no flavor. I just put a lot of butter.
CHRIS [00:12:17] Oh how Anita ruthless, ruthless hang up at the minute. Yes. May all your pancakes be fluffy in 2021. Hello. Next caller, you are on the line. Welcome. Cannot wait to hear your resolution.
CALLER [00:12:30] Hello.
CHRIS [00:12:32] Yeah.
CALLER [00:12:33] I think my biggest resolution is just to spend more time present with my family and my daughter. She’s three and with covid and working from home, I haven’t been the best at being able to draw that line of where work ends and home begins. And that’s just it’s it’s not healthy.
CHRIS [00:13:03] You and me both, and I have actually found it very eye-opening because when I’m home, I see it so clearly and it makes me realize when I wasn’t home, it was still an issue. And I have a big chance to correct it now.
CALLER [00:13:17] Definitely. I mean, the hardest thing is that I have the office. My computers are always staring at me and it’s hard to turn that brain off and say this we need to be present now because this is three years old, the best age right now, just with the interaction and the funny things the kids say.
CHRIS [00:13:40] Wow, OK, I hope you get there. Enjoy that kid. Every minute counts the silver lining of twenty twenty for me. So much time with the little guy.
CALLER [00:13:50] Hi.
CHRIS [00:13:50] Oh hello. Yeah. OK, you’re not wasting time. Hello. You’re minute begins now.
CALLER [00:13:53] Oh my gosh. Yes, last time I called, I got cut off at the one minute mark and then every other call after me was two minutes.
CHRIS [00:14:01] Ooooh, throwing shade.
CALLER [00:14:05] Do you remember that?
CHRIS [00:14:05] Well, I mean, there’s been hundreds of calls, but I do remember that that has happened. I’m so sorry that you were the one on the chopping block. That being said, we’re down to 40 seconds. So if you don’t want to get cut off again and relive that nightmare.
CALLER [00:14:15] OK. Happy holidays. Happy holidays to you. And I haven’t thought about my New Year’s resolution, but I am going to be a first time mother next year, so I’m pretty excited about that.
CHRIS [00:14:27] Congrats, sounds sounds like your New Year’s resolution was call out Gethard for cutting me off last year.
CALLER [00:14:33] I just saw the phone number pop up and I had to call again. Hopefully I get to talk to you for an hour next time.
CHRIS [00:14:39] I would love that and so much love.
CALLER [00:14:41] I’m a huge fan, I love your work.
CHRIS [00:14:42] Thank you. And I’m wishing you so much such a happy, healthy delivery. It’s a beautiful thing.
CALLER [00:14:48] I appreciate it. Thank you, Chris. Take care.
CHRIS [00:14:50] You too. That was exactly one minute you nailed it this year. And that’s great. Now I’m nervous about whoever gets cut off, OK. Hello. Welcome to the show. New Year’s resolutions, annual tradition here on Beautiful Anonymous Gethard. I’m catching. I can’t believe I don’t even know that we’ve had 10 calls. I’m already saying I’m catching my second wind. OK, hello. Welcome.
CALLER [00:15:12] Hey Geth. How are you?
CHRIS [00:15:14] I’m doing great. How are you?
CALLER [00:15:17] Doing well, thank you. My New Year’s resolution is to take active steps toward becoming a grief professional.
CHRIS [00:15:25] Did you say a grief professional?
CALLER [00:15:27] Grief.
CHRIS [00:15:27] Grief.
CALLER [00:15:29] With an f, yes. Grief and loss.
CHRIS [00:15:32] Grief and loss, and what does that mean to be a grief professional?
CALLER [00:15:35] That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I don’t know if I’ll need specialized training to find some good mentors but I already work in the social services field. So it would be more of a pivot rather than a big jump. And this year just solidified that that’s just really what I want to do with my life which is help people with grief.
CHRIS [00:15:50] That’s one of the kind, kind and selfless things. That’s that’s one of the more selfless things I’ve heard of, because you’re going to be around a lot of pain. Are you braced for that? I mean it seriously.
CALLER [00:16:01] I am. Yeah. I mean, I’ve been doing a lot of work on myself on the front end of this, to to that end hopefully. But yeah.
CHRIS [00:16:10] Well, that is beautiful. Thank you for the call and when you hear about people stepping into jobs like that, where the whole goal is to help other people in need, I find it so mind blowing and impressive. Thank you for that. Hello. Next caller, we’re doing our New Year’s resolutions. Your minute begins now.
CALLER [00:16:27] High Geth.
CHRIS [00:16:29] Hi.
CALLER [00:16:31] So my New Year’s resolution this year is to paint at least five exterior murals or signs.
CHRIS [00:16:40] That is so specific.
CALLER [00:16:44] Yeah, I am. Well, I’m a sign painter, an aspiring one. And it’s like it’s it’s a field that used to be it’s pretty much it like almost died out completely. And there’s a little bit of a resurgence of it. And I found it to be like my passion and everything, and I just really enjoy it. And so I’ve been doing like a lot of small signage and illustrations and lettering work and things like that. And I just really want to, like, break out and and make like more of a big splash.
CHRIS [00:17:14] You got a call back because I got to hear more about the dying sign industry and this resurgence. It’s the exact type of thing that pushes my buttons. Thank you for the call. OK, those last five seconds, you might be responding right now, but we got to cut off. Sorry about that. Hello, next caller, welcome to the show. Every call this far is from our Facebook group. You guys are stepping up. Thank you all for being the community that has made this show what it is. Thank you so much. Next caller, are you there?
CALLER [00:17:41] Chris motherfucking Gethard.
CHRIS [00:17:44] Here we go. What’s up?
CALLER [00:17:47] How’s it going?
CHRIS [00:17:49] It’s great, it’s great talking to all these people with positivity, looking forward. How are you?
CALLER [00:17:55] I’m fantastic. Quick question real quick. Do you do you ever feel like drunk after you do this? You just talk to so many people and it’s rapids, not drunk, but like overstimulated or anything?
CHRIS [00:18:06] For the New Year’s episode specifically?
CALLER [00:18:09] Yeah.
CHRIS [00:18:09] Yeah. I go through a lot of stages. I’m remembering it now as we’re doing it, where there’s exhaustion, there’s excitement, there’s adrenaline. And by the end, I am usually in a very weird headspace. Yes.
CALLER [00:18:23] Well, best wishes for this. I have a simple resolution. I’m just trying to read more man, I don’t have time. I don’t devote time sorry, rather, towards reading. So I want to finish at least two or three books next year. That’s my only resolution.
CHRIS [00:18:37] That’s great. I love that. Thank you for calling. Thank you for shouting my name and a bunch of curse words. Break. Let’s break the seal on that. And yeah, three books. I bet that’s attainable. I mean, I don’t know how busy your life is. Anyway. Next call. Let’s get it going, welcome to the show.
CALLER [00:18:53] Hey, isn’t this where I say is this Chris?
CHRIS [00:18:56] Yes, this is Chris. Welcome.
CALLER [00:19:00] How’s it going?
CHRIS [00:19:02] Great. I’m feeling very good, I’m feeling very locked in and I’m excited to hear from everybody feels good at the end of 2020 to just hear from so many people.
CALLER [00:19:10] It’s, it’s been a year.
CHRIS [00:19:15] It has been, what’s your resolution?
CALLER [00:19:15] I have no idea what I want for next year.
CHRIS [00:19:17] Uh huh.
CALLER [00:19:19] I mean I’m kind of working on an autobiography right now that’s kind of not an autobiography. But whether that will actually come to anything, I don’t know.
CHRIS [00:19:30] Did you say it’s an autobiography that’s not an autobiography?
CALLER [00:19:34] Yeah, it’s kind of more. Like, how I’m thinking of it is more how memories aren’t memories and like how I’m remembering things might not actually be how things actually are if that makes sense.
CHRIS [00:19:51] Your minute is up. And that was by far is that that was the most intriguing thing I’ve heard in a while. And I may never know what that meant unless, of course, you published that book, which would be amazing. OK, next caller, welcome to the show. I also think you can hear Hallie playing with Cal. And right now what that just involves is him screaming as loud as possible. So apologies on that, everybody. OK. Next caller, welcome to the show.
CALLER [00:20:19] I, I can’t hear him.
CHRIS [00:20:21] OK.
CALLER [00:20:22] Hi.
CHRIS [00:20:23] You can’t hear that right now?
CALLER [00:20:24] Oh yeah. No, no, no. I can hear that now. I can definitely hear that.
CHRIS [00:20:27] Yeah I might have to. I’m gonna text my wife and say hey, just remind her. OK.
CALLER [00:20:34] That’s a good idea.
CHRIS [00:20:35] Hold on, I’m going to I’m going to pause, you get your full minute, hold on.
CALLER [00:20:40] That’s OK.
CHRIS [00:20:42] We can hear. Hi, I love you. We can hear everything. That’s my text. OK, I’m going to just reset the clock for you. OK, your minute begins now.
CALLER [00:20:52] Hi.
CHRIS [00:20:54] Hi.
CALLER [00:20:54] How are you doing? That was really frantic for you, I think.
CHRIS [00:20:57] Well, I panic. I have a lot of anxiety in my mind. Everyone’s mad at me right now.
CALLER [00:21:03] Yeah, yeah. I get that way, too. I understand.
CHRIS [00:21:08] So what’s up, what’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:21:11] Hi. Yeah. Oh, OK, we’re ready. So I think my New Year’s resolution is getting a family doctor and writing down my dreams.
CHRIS [00:21:24] I love that. I love that.
CALLER [00:21:27] Yeah, I’m feeling really good about them. And I think that I can do it. And I think this is holding me accountable.
CHRIS [00:21:32] Yeah, right. When you can tangibly see it written on the page, pick up that piece of paper. Now it’s go time. No excuses.
CALLER [00:21:40] Yeah. Yeah. Getting like a funky book or something. You know.
CHRIS [00:21:44] I love a funky book. I feel like all of us I think this entire community should commit 2021 everybody gets a funky book.
CHRIS [00:21:57] This is one of those, the phrase funky book is one of those things that I now know I will hear for the next two years from Beautiful Anonymous fans. People come up to me at live shows and go sorry Sally giraffe funky book. Now on the list, and I love that. We’ll be right back.
[00:22:18] [AD BREAK]
CHRIS [00:22:19] Thanks to all of our advertisers. Now let’s get back to your phone calls.
CHRIS [00:22:24] I think this entire community, should commit 2021 everybody gets a funky book. All right, thank you so much for calling. Let’s go ahead to our next caller. Welcome to the show. How are you? What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:22:39] Is this me, am I on?
CHRIS [00:22:42] It’s you, you’re on.
CALLER [00:22:42] H, my God, I’m so excited.
CHRIS [00:22:45] All right.
CALLER [00:22:45] I’m about to start working, so I didn’t think I was going to get on in time. I’m so excited to talk to you.
CHRIS [00:22:54] I’m excited to talk to you as well. What’s your resolution?
CALLER [00:22:58] My resolution is accepting things for what they are. And this is like a big thing that I’ve come into this year having like random experiences with people. And you always want them to be more than what they actually are. And sometimes you’re disappointed or you’re left feeling like things are unfinished. But coming into the new year, I want to have experiences and maybe they’re not the best or maybe they weren’t what I wanted them to be. So I want to just accept them and and learn from them and hold onto them for what they are.
CHRIS [00:23:28] A little bit of zen a little bit of go with the flow. I like that.
CALLER [00:23:33] That’s what I’m trying, leaning into it.
CHRIS [00:23:35] You can get there. I believe in you. Thank you for the call. Hoping you have a fantastic 2021. OK, next caller. Hello, welcome to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution.
CALLER [00:23:45] Oh my goodness. I think it’s me. Is it me?
CHRIS [00:23:48] It is you. Oh, my goodness.
CALLER [00:23:50] Wow. OK, I have to whisper because I’m at work. OK, ok. So the health care worker and 2020 has been a journey. I hope I can show up for myself the way I try to show up for my patients. And I want to be able to communicate my boundaries with confidence and clarity. And I want to be a better partner to my boyfriend who’s been really patient with me through this through this intense year. Thank you so much for allowing us to share what we want.
CHRIS [00:24:25] You’re thanking me. You’re a health care worker. Let me thank you. You have kept so many of us alive this year, no exaggeration. Now, did you get the vaccine yet or are you in line for it?
CALLER [00:24:36] I’m in line. I’m waiting. I’m not sure what order I’ll be in if I’ll be able to have a spot, because it’s being kind of rolled out in a way that addresses people who need it most first.
CHRIS [00:24:51] Got it. Well, thank you for everything you do. I hope you get that. I hope you get that injection very soon. I hope we all do. And you’re health care worker, I hope you’re one of the first. Thank you for your service to the rest of us. I hope all your resolutions come to pass. Hello, next caller. Welcome to the show.
CALLER [00:25:08] Hello.
CHRIS [00:25:09] Hi.
CALLER [00:25:09] Sorry, I’m really excited. Hi. So I don’t know if it’s really a resolution, but I really want to win a 30 under 30 award in my town.
CHRIS [00:25:22] I love that.
CALLER [00:25:23] So I’ve been nominated. I’ve been nominated, which is huge.
CHRIS [00:25:27] Go get it.
CALLER [00:25:28] But here’s the thing yes, but if I don’t win, my goal is to do something so big next year that they can’t deny me to win for the following year.
CHRIS [00:25:38] Wow. I mean, this is intriguing.
CALLER [00:25:40] I’m out of breath. I just ran up the stairs.
CHRIS [00:25:42] I love that. Now you must you must do something specific to be in the running on this.
CALLER [00:25:48] Yeah. I work for a big health care company in Buffalo. Go Sugar City woo.
CHRIS [00:25:54] Love Sugar City. RIP.
CALLER [00:25:56] I don’t work for Sugar City but I know you love Sugar City.
CHRIS [00:26:00] RIP Sugar City, covid casualty. Breaks my heart.
CALLER [00:26:03] Yeah, it does. But yeah, that’s the goal. And when I get to talk to you for an hour, I will tell you about my journey to winning 30 under 30.
CHRIS [00:26:12] Can’t wait 30 under 30. Go get it. 30 under 30 movers and shakers in Buffalo. Hello. Next caller, welcome to the show. What is your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:26:24] Oh, hi.
CHRIS [00:26:26] Hi, how are you?
CALLER [00:26:27] Hello?
CHRIS [00:26:27] Yeah, what’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:26:28] Oh, man, good. Oh, man. OK, so I actually hadn’t even thought about it, but I think I want to do one really irresponsible thing.
CHRIS [00:26:38] Yeah. What are we thinking here?
CALLER [00:26:41] I don’t know, so I’m like a mom and a teacher and I’m very, very responsible almost all the time.
CHRIS [00:26:49] Yeah.
CALLER [00:26:50] So I even though I just want to do something that like I know it’s not a great decision, but it’s something I want to do.
CHRIS [00:26:55] Yeah, I am into that. A lot of the best stretches of my life have started with bad decisions that spurred on actual life disasters. And then I rebuild in a way that I really enjoy. Now, I’m not encouraging that for you. You have responsibilities, but I’m with you on the value of irresponsibility once in a while.
CALLER [00:27:13] Yeah, like I feel like especially this year obviously has been heavy. I don’t know. I think I don’t know what. Maybe I’ll get a tattoo.
CHRIS [00:27:20] Oh, I like that.
CALLER [00:27:22] It’s not even that irresponsible though. It’s like 2020. Everyone has a tattoo. I don’t know.
CHRIS [00:27:26] Well it depends on how crazy the tattoo. If you get the I mean if you go out and intentionally get the most outlandish tattoo you can. I love that. Call back. Let us know what your irresponsible decisions were. OK, next caller. I also got, just so everybody knows I just got a return text from my wife that said, sorry, I thought you were on a Zoome call not recording. And that is, I believe now the screaming game will stop. And you may have briefly heard her playing an actual drum directly below me, which is adorable and makes me love her even more that she was playing a drum and screaming during the taping. Hello, welcome to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:28:08] Sorry, is that me?
CHRIS [00:28:09] Yeah, it’s you.
CALLER [00:28:11] Oh, my gosh, wow. Nice to talk to you, Chris.
CHRIS [00:28:13] Yeah you too.
CALLER [00:28:16] Wow, I never thought in a million years. Anyway, sorry, I am a preschool teacher in Georgia. We’ve been face to face at my school because we’re a private school and my New Year’s resolution is kind of just to take better care of myself and be better about communicating with my loved ones this year and hopefully get married.
CHRIS [00:28:38] Oh, are you do you have a do you have a fiancé, are you betrothed?
CALLER [00:28:43] I do. We’ve been together for almost eight years now and we just got engaged this last September.
CHRIS [00:28:47] Hey, congrats. That’s the best. That’s cool.
CALLER [00:28:51] Thank you.
CHRIS [00:28:53] Yeah teaching little kids, getting married. I love it. OK, that’s what a great thing. Where are you having to be planning a big wedding. Small wedding. What are we thinking.
CALLER [00:29:03] Hopefully small. I actually just today started thinking about eloping so. Well, we have to have that conversation and figure that out.
CHRIS [00:29:09] OK, good luck. I hope it’s the wedding of your dreams. Next caller, welcome to the show. What is your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:29:17] Hi, how are you doing?
CHRIS [00:29:19] I’m actually feeling pretty great. Usually by now I’m starting to complain a lot in the course of these episodes, but not really an issue thus far, we’ll see when I get there.
CALLER [00:29:28] Perfect. So my resolutions, I have two. One, I want to keep being patient with my body. This year I’ve seen the best growth in terms of a healthy living journey. And I credit that to, you know, if I want to eat like crap, I’m gonna eat like crap, the other days I’m eating healthy. If I want to sleep and not exercise, I’m gonna asleep and not exercise. So that’s one I’m going to keep going at. And the other thing is I want to I want to feel passionate about my job again. I’m a news producer. So this year has been a doozy in terms of news. There’s no news cycle you can even compare this to. So I just want to find that passion for news again and not feel totally exhausted going to work and leaving work every day.
CHRIS [00:30:15] Well, I wish you nothing but luck in that. Thank you for the call. I can imagine being a news producer in 2020 is a hell on earth. Thank you for everything. Let’s get our next caller on the line. Hello, welcome to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:30:33] Hi, I’m longtime listener first time caller. First off, I loved you in Class Action Park.
CHRIS [00:30:37] Thank you. That was a fun one.
CALLER [00:30:40] I came out to my parents as transgender this year and I’m currently watching the HBO IMAX documentary Equal, the LGBTQ+ rights.
CHRIS [00:30:48] I love I love that. Yeah, you feel like it’s it’s it’s ringing true or giving you food for thought?
CALLER [00:30:56] Yes, it’s definitely inspirational because I came out when my family wasn’t super supportive. So it inspired me to like even though maybe not everybody is on board that I should still be who I am.
CHRIS [00:31:08] You should be who you are live that truth. Don’t sit here stressing out, holding on to something. Let’s let it go. Let’s be free. I think that’s a beautiful thing. And I congratulate you on taking that that huge step.
CALLER [00:31:21] Thank you. Now for my New Years resolution, I won’t speak for everyone else, but I know I fall into the pattern of just walking mindless TV. That being said, this year, I want to watch more educational videos on YouTube and or documentaries and absorb as much knowledge as I can. I’m thinking something like two documentaries a week or a minimum of a half hour, a YouTube educational video a day.
CHRIS [00:31:41] I love that. Thank you so much for the call. Anita was very nice. Anita is getting soft here, Anita’s not doing cut. On that one Anita said we just had this beautiful conversation about embracing your truth and trying to get your family to support you. I’m not going to cut this person off. I get that. I get that. OK, but Anita, OK, not the stern taskmaster that evil old Harry Nelson used to be. Let’s go ahead and get our next caller on the line. Welcome to the show.
CALLER [00:32:10] Hi this is [beep] Oh, I shouldn’t say that, sorry.
CHRIS [00:32:15] Hey, it’s okay, it’s the New Year show, so I’ll let you slide. Normally, I’d hang right up on you and I’d yell and scream and be angry anyway. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:32:26] Um, quarentine has kind of taught me that we have to take the smaller cares of ourselves better, like eating vegetables or like going out in the sunshine. And so just kind of really focusing on that stuff. And then I also want to put out in the world, but I hope that my wife has a baby in 2021.
CHRIS [00:32:45] Did you say you hope your wife has a baby?
CALLER [00:32:47] Yes, I hope she does, so we’ve got some medical things that we have to get through but hopefully we get there.
CHRIS [00:32:56] Yeah, those fighting for that, it can be brutal. I know, but it’s so worth it. And I wish you both nothing but success. What a beautiful thing. OK, thank you for the call. Next caller, welcome to the show. Facebook group is stepping up.
CALLER [00:33:13] Hey, Chris.
CHRIS [00:33:14] Hello.
CALLER [00:33:15] Hey, how’s it going?
CHRIS [00:33:17] It’s going pretty good. I mean, we’re over half an hour in and I feel like fresh as a daisy, so.
CALLER [00:33:24] You’re doing awesome.
CHRIS [00:33:25] Thanks that’s nice.
CALLER [00:33:26] So I was your first call the first time you did this. I think.
CHRIS [00:33:30] You were the first call?
CALLER [00:33:31] Yes, yes. So my New Year’s resolutions then were to learn to drive and to stop smoking. And I’m pleased to say I have almost done those.
CHRIS [00:33:45] You’ve almost done those. OK. OK, still taking the driving lessons?
CALLER [00:33:48] I cut down on the smoking and I have tried to start learning how to drive. It’s scary though.
CHRIS [00:33:56] Now I believe it’s been at least two years of these. Right. So you’re taking your time easing into it.
CALLER [00:34:03] You’re right yes.
CHRIS [00:34:03] I’m never going to judge that. I’m glad you’re getting there and I hope the progress continues.
CALLER [00:34:08] Thanks. And also, my sister was on the show earlier and she said, get a family doctor and I’m going to take a page out of her funky book and also do that myself.
CHRIS [00:34:17] Take a page out of the funky book. I love that. Thank you for calling. And your since you are siblings, I would imagine a family doctor, you might be able to share that person. Anyway, let’s go ahead and get to our next caller. Welcome to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:34:36] Is that me?
CHRIS [00:34:37] It is you. Your time begins now.
CALLER [00:34:39] Oh, my New Year’s resolution is to spend more time with family because this year has been like, you know a year of separation. So that’s my New Year’s resolution. I’m here with my husband and I want to see if he wants to share one. Nope, he’s shaking his head no.
CHRIS [00:35:04] Oh, that makes me feel, oh, no, it’s OK. You don’t have to, it makes me feel a little insecure. That’s OK.
CALLER [00:35:14] Yeah, I don’t know what else to say, so.
CHRIS [00:35:18] That’s fair, that’s fair. Now, is your husband just shy or is he like this, this guy Gethard, he’s all talk.
CALLER [00:35:26] He’s the shy one.
CHRIS [00:35:28] That’s OK. I’m shy to more often than not. Much love to you both. Thank you for calling. And next caller, let’s keep it rolling. Let’s not mess around here, Gethard. Let’s get as many in as we can. Hello. Your time begins now.
CALLER [00:35:42] Hey Chris.
CHRIS [00:35:43] Hi.
CALLER [00:35:44] Yeah, great. So I was hi, I was your last caller, the first time you did this, and it’s crazy that I come in right now. First of all, I did listen more in 2018, so thanks for making me commit to that. And secondly, I want to learn to drive now compared to the lady who just, yes.
CHRIS [00:36:03] What?
CALLER [00:36:04] I know.
CHRIS [00:36:05] It’s it’s like full circles crossing over with other full circles into Venn diagrams.
CALLER [00:36:14] Yeah. I keep having these dreams that I’m driving but I have no idea how to do it in real life. All I know about Ford Focus is that it has heated seating and great speakers. I want to know more about it.
CHRIS [00:36:28] No this is starting to feel like a paid advertisement for Ford Focus, which I it is not on my end. I don’t know if you’re a Ford Focus plant.
CALLER [00:36:39] Wait it’s a Fiesta, see I don’t even know what kind of car it is.
CHRIS [00:36:43] What OK, that minute was up, that was that sounded shockingly like that person is paid to find grassroots advertising opportunities for Ford Focus, which, again, I want to reiterate, I know nothing about this. OK, next caller, welcome to the show. Which car line would you like to plug and what is your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:37:05] I just want to funky notebook.
CHRIS [00:37:07] Wait now, I imagine you’ve heard the prior two calls. Did you shift your New Year’s resolution to match the funky notebook?
CALLER [00:37:13] Yes, I have.
CHRIS [00:37:14] You have.
CALLER [00:37:14] My New Year’s resolution is to get a funky notebook so that I can fit in.
CHRIS [00:37:18] Fit in with the funky notebook crowd as they’re building and gaining steam. So you were on the line, had another New Year’s resolution, threw it in the trash and said, yup, funky notebook. That’s where it’s at. And there might be other people on the line.
CALLER [00:37:30] I love notebooks.
CHRIS [00:37:32] Now, what do you what’s going to make your notebook funky in 2021?
CALLER [00:37:39] An empty notebook is like the perfect thing for a new year, a blank notebook is home to new adventures. You write the start, man. And hopefully I just want to get the fuck out of this house. Sorry Sally.
CHRIS [00:37:47] That’s OK. I wonder how many other people on the line right now are going, screw it. I’m going funky notebook, get out of the house. That’s a good one, too. I mean, that’s just like a kind of societal one for 2021, right? Oh, I can’t wait to just walk around freely.
CALLER [00:38:02] All the times that you said…
CHRIS [00:38:02] Oh, all the times that I’ve said what? I’ll never know what I said, OK. Next caller, welcome to the show. Let’s get it going. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:38:16] Hey Chris, I’m tired and hot. I just got off a surgery.
CHRIS [00:38:20] Are you OK?
CALLER [00:38:22] I am OK. I am dealing with the fallout of some stress and trauma from my job as teaching and the surgery this year. But my New Year’s resolution is nothing to with that. I want to be as good as a brother, because I am a fresh new uncle and my brother just had a baby.
CHRIS [00:38:46] Congratulations. Your call’s breaking up a little bit, but in a way that I think is very artistically cool. And it sounds like you are a new uncle and that’s amazing. And that’s one of the best gigs on Earth being an uncle.
CALLER [00:38:57] Oh, I. I can’t even believe how happy I was to see that little boy’s face. It filled me with the joy that I have I’ve never felt in my life.
CHRIS [00:39:07] And you don’t have to put up with the screaming at night. It’s the best gig.
CALLER [00:39:12] I get to go home. I get to just put him back.
CHRIS [00:39:16] Well, much love to you. I’m glad the surgery went well. I hope that that stress alleviates more and more as this as this year comes to a close. Next caller, welcome to the show. How are you? What would you like to talk about today?
CALLER [00:39:29] Hi. Is this me?
CHRIS [00:39:30] It is you.
CALLER [00:39:32] Oh, well. Well, I’m a teacher also, so one of my resolutions, I guess, is to give myself a little bit of time for myself and not just to work. And I’m trying to buy a little house this year too.
CHRIS [00:39:49] Specifically a little house. I like that.
CALLER [00:39:53] Yeah, I’m on my own. So, you know, a little house. I don’t need much.
CHRIS [00:39:58] That’s nice. What a nice thing. You’ve been scouting houses. You’ve been hitting up these real estate sites?
CALLER [00:40:04] Yeah, yeah. I found some little one bedrooms that are quaint, like little manufactured homes. So I think those would be really nice to have.
CHRIS [00:40:13] That’s great. It’s such a nice feeling. It’s such a nice feeling and it’s so hard to get over that hump of owning. But but when you get there, it really feels great.
CALLER [00:40:25] Yeah, I think.
CHRIS [00:40:26] All right. Thank you so much. Next caller. Hello. Welcome to the show. Oh, boy, I have to sneeze I’m gonna try to do it off mic while you talk. I apologize. I’ll still be listening hard. What is your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:40:38] Hi Chris, I don’t know if this is me or not.
CHRIS [00:40:40] It is.
CALLER [00:40:41] Oh, great. My resolution this year is to stay in the present moment, especially with my kids. I’m being a mom and and with my husband. A lot of times I find myself thinking about other things and kind of missing out on what’s going on. So that’s something I want to change. I want to be more kind with every interaction, listen more to people, increase my time in nature and laugh more.
CHRIS [00:41:16] I love that.
CALLER [00:41:17] I think that’s doable.
CHRIS [00:41:18] Yeah, I also feel like you’ve come in, you’ve got the bullet points down, clear thought out.
CALLER [00:41:23] Yeah.
CHRIS [00:41:24] It makes me feel like you’re going to accomplish every single one, I bet, by March.
CALLER [00:41:28] March. OK. Yeah, that’s a good goall, and strangely, I’ve added a Ford Focus to my list. I don’t know why, I’ve never thought about it, but no.
CHRIS [00:41:39] Oh, boy. Funky notebooks and Ford Focuses, that’s becoming the theme for 2021. Everybody gets a funky notebook. Everybody gets a Ford Focus. If I was Oprah, that’s what I would be yelling now. But I’m not Oprah. She’s a literal billionaire.
CHRIS [00:41:57] Ford Focus, wow, look at that, people just throwing in corporate brands might as well go to some ads. It is fitting. We’ll be right back.
[00:42:15] [AD BREAK].
CHRIS [00:42:15] All right everybody, the ads are over. Let’s get back to many more of your phone calls.
CHRIS [00:42:21] Everybody gets a funky notebook. Everybody gets a Ford Focus. If I was Oprah, that’s what I would be yelling now. But I’m not Oprah. She’s a literal billionaire. OK, next caller, welcome to the show. What is your New Year’s resolution? Hello.
CALLER [00:42:34] Is this me?
CHRIS [00:42:36] It’s you.
CALLER [00:42:37] Oh, my gosh. Hello. My sister and I are huge listeners.
CHRIS [00:42:40] Thanks. Thanks for checking out the show.
CALLER [00:42:43] So my New Year’s resolution is to practice gratitude more intentionally. And just in general, I have a goal of visiting a new country every year. So I’m hoping I can resume that goal in 2021.
CHRIS [00:42:58] What country are we thinking for 2021? You got to go big after 2020 right?
CALLER [00:43:05] Well I supposed to, I graduated from grad school in May and I was supposed to go to Thailand and I had to cancel that, unfortunately, but rightfully so I’m hoping to do that in 2021 now.
CHRIS [00:43:16] I love that. I hear Thailand is an amazing place. I heard it’s stunning.
CALLER [00:43:21] I’m really excited.
CHRIS [00:43:23] What are some other countries you’ve been to? 10 seconds list.
CALLER [00:43:26] Oh, I went to Spain right before everything shut down, which was amazing. And I highly recommend Iceland.
CHRIS [00:43:31] Iceland. All right. Thank you for the call. I’ve heard you can do that trick where Iceland lets you just kind of linger there if you do a layover. I’ve heard that. Everybody look up the Iceland lingering trick, OK. Next caller, welcome to the show Funky Notebook’s, Ford Focus, what do you want to talk about?
CALLER [00:43:49] Holy moly Chris is this you? Is this real life?
CHRIS [00:43:52] Holy moly. Welcome. Haven’t heard that phrase in a while.
CALLER [00:43:58] Oh my gosh. I can’t believe I got through. This is nuts. Well, I have a few New Year’s resolutions. First and foremost, I need to stop smoking. I’m a smoker, pretty heavy smoker. I haven’t smoked for too long, but especially now, with quarentine and more time at home, more stress, anxiety. I find myself, you know, like a chain smoker, which is disgusting. And yeah, in addition to that, I want to, you know, try to focus on more positive thinking. I have a tendency to jump on the anxiety train, if you will. When it’s coming by. And I know that’s something that you deal with, too, but yeah, just a more positive mindset and not overthinking the negative stuff.
CHRIS [00:44:43] I love it. I hope you accomplish both and I hope.
CALLER [00:44:47] Thank you Chris.
CHRIS [00:44:47] I like how you said you want to focus on that and not Ford Focus on that. OK. Hello. Welcome to the show. What is your New Year’s resolution caller? Hello.
CALLER [00:44:58] Oh, my goodness gracious. Chris Gethard, is that you?
CHRIS [00:45:02] It’s me.
CALLER [00:45:04] This is so awesome. Hello, Chris I got to be honest. I got to tell you man, I was on Zoom yesterday for one hundred and seventy five people, I am more nervous to talk to you right now than I was last night.
CHRIS [00:45:17] For one minute?
CALLER [00:45:20] OK. All right. What’d you say, one minute. Is that the time?
CHRIS [00:45:23] You have thirty five seconds. Thirty four. Thirty three.
CALLER [00:45:26] All right, listen, baby, we are going to empower the youth through creativity for another year. I launched my small business and hired my two best friends within the last six months after catching covid while getting married in elopement in NYC. And this year is going to be OK. I’m going to be healthy. I’m going to be happy, and I’m going to make shit happen.
CHRIS [00:45:46] You have the energy of someone who starts a small business during covid and has it blow up and have one hundred seventy five person Zooms. You have the energy of a successful human being.
CALLER [00:45:56] Boom, baby. And I hope we become friends….
CHRIS [00:45:59] Boom, baby. Anita that’s what I want to see. Cut them off halfway through the word friends. That’s what we need on this show. We need somebody to have an icy cold dagger of truth. I’m going to say. OK, hello, welcome to the show. Next caller. Let’s get it going. How are you? Welcome.
CALLER [00:46:17] I’m good. How are you?
CHRIS [00:46:19] I’m good. I’m really feeling a lot of energy, having a lot of fun this year.
CALLER [00:46:25] Well that’s good. It sounds really fun. My new New Year’s resolution is to hopefully give birth soon. I’ve been pregnant throughout this whole pandemic and it has been awful. So I’m hoping that he gets here very, very soon. And to also get my anxiety and depression under control because again, with a pandemic and the pregnancy it kind of went a little haywire this year.
CHRIS [00:46:49] I can imagine. I mean. I mean. That’s that’s a that’s a combo. Now, when are you due?
CALLER [00:46:56] Technically on the 14th of January, but I’ve been having contractions like this whole week. I actually have a doctor’s appointment in like an hour. So we’ll see if it’s time. But this so cool. I love your show. Thank you for everything you do, by the way.
CHRIS [00:47:09] Thank you for calling. And I got to tell you, I hope everything is healthy and safe and you’re going to love it. You’re going to love it. And this covid thing will be over soon. The pregnancy will be over. And I bet it’s going to feel like a huge relief on both fronts. Thank you for calling so much. Love to you. Next caller, welcome to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:47:32] Hey, Chris, how are you?
CHRIS [00:47:33] I’m good. I still have to sneeze and it’s driving me insane. Outside of that, I’m great.
CALLER [00:47:37] OK, well, if you sneeze over me, that’s fine. I don’t mind.
CHRIS [00:47:40] Thank you.
CHRIS [00:47:41] All right. I’m gonna get to it. I have six New Year’s Resolution.
CHRIS [00:47:44] Six.
CALLER [00:47:45] Number one, do my Amex reports on time for work so that H.R. and finance doesn’t hate me and doesn’t have to track me down.
CHRIS [00:47:53] That’s one.
CALLER [00:47:54] Number two travel more, even if it’s not just to the grocery store pick up like somewhere else outside of my house.
CHRIS [00:48:02] Got it. That’s two.
CALLER [00:48:04] Yep. Number three, care less about family drama.
CHRIS [00:48:07] Yep.
CALLER [00:48:10] Be more politically engaged, apply to a grad school and spend less time on Facebook and more time with my family and finding a hobby.
CHRIS [00:48:19] I didn’t think you’re going to get through all six and then and then you really hit the gas at the end there.
CALLER [00:48:23] Yep. Got to speed through. Thanks so much.
CHRIS [00:48:27] Thank you so much. I love all of those resolutions and goals. Next caller, welcome to the show. Good God. When is this sneeze gonna come out, what are your New Year’s resolutions?
CALLER [00:48:38] Oh gosh hi. First I have a tip for if you’re going to sneeze, look up at a light that’s like overhead, like just stare at that light. And sometimes that really helps me when I have to sneeze.
CHRIS [00:48:47] Ok I’m staring at a ring light. OK, what’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:48:54] So I’m actually a preschool teacher from Georgia. I didn’t think I would get back to work and was having so much fun listening to you guys.
CHRIS [00:49:02] All right.
CALLER [00:49:04] I’m sorry for stealing someone else’s time. And I love you. And I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day, Chris.
CHRIS [00:49:09] I do. I love you, too. Now, what’s going to make your notebook funky in 2020. You still get 20 seconds. Get through twice. That’s fine. That’s a great way to start the new year.
CALLER [00:49:18] I, I actually also really want to get back into making art. I majored in art and I haven’t made anything since I graduated. So that’s what my notebook will be.
CHRIS [00:49:27] I love that. Good luck. Great to talk to you again. I’m staring at a light and it’s not the sneezing’s not happening. Sneeze update. Everybody it’s still sitting in there.
CALLER [00:49:35] No.
CHRIS [00:49:35] It’s OK. Hello. Hello. Welcome to the show. What is your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:49:42] Oh, I’m back, is it me again?
CHRIS [00:49:46] You again, who are you?
CALLER [00:49:47] Hello. I’m the pregnant shade thrower.
CHRIS [00:49:57] Is everybody just getting back in now?
CALLER [00:50:01] Well, I was going to have you talk to my friend on my computer. Let me see if I can get this to work.
CHRIS [00:50:06] OK, Yeah, patch your friend. I think I hear your friend giggling maniacally.
CALLER [00:50:10] Can you hear me?
CALLER 2 [00:50:12] Yeah.
CALLER [00:50:13] Say hi. What’s your New Year’s resolution, Chris wants to know.
CALLER 2 [00:50:21] I don’t do that bullshit.
CHRIS [00:50:22] What was that about bullshit?
CALLER [00:50:23] Oh, I asked him what his New Year’s resolution was. He said he doesn’t do that bullshit.
CHRIS [00:50:28] Wow, this guy sounds like a real bad ass mofo.
CALLER 2 [00:50:35] No, just really sad.
CHRIS [00:50:36] Did you say really sad?
CALLER [00:50:39] Yeah.
CHRIS [00:50:39] Well, that broke my goddamn heart. Thank you so much for calling. That broke my goddamn heart. Oh, you’re trying to be badass. No, I just have no hope for resolutions. Well, I hope you bounce back and get that sadness out of your system. Hello, new caller. What’s your New Year’s resolutions?
CALLER [00:51:02] Well, my main New Year’s resolution is to graduate college this year.
CHRIS [00:51:06] I love it. Congrats.
CALLER [00:51:08] Thanks. I’m studying education, so I’m student teaching in a third grade classroom right now. And, you know, I’m just looking forward to continue building relationships with my students.
CHRIS [00:51:17] I love that. And is this virtual are you a student teacher in a virtual classroom?
CALLER [00:51:22] My school district is actually pretty crazy. We are every single kid in person five days a week.
CHRIS [00:51:28] Wow. Bold.
CALLER [00:51:29] So we’re we’re yeah. We’re going to be virtual the first two weeks back, but then we’re all in person. We’ve got 21 kids in our room.
CHRIS [00:51:37] I hope that that’s healthy. Do you feel safe? Do you feel like there’s good precautions being taken?
CALLER [00:51:42] I feel pretty good about my room, but some of the classrooms do scare me a little bit.
CHRIS [00:51:47] OK, well, I hope you are safe and healthy and happy, and I hope you graduate and I hope you achieve all your teaching dreams.
CALLER [00:51:55] Thanks.
CHRIS [00:51:55] OK, thank you so much. Facebook group is stepping up this year. Hello caller. Welcome to the show. How are you?
CALLER [00:52:08] Hi, Chris.
CHRIS [00:52:09] Hi.
CALLER [00:52:09] I’m good. How are you?
CHRIS [00:52:11] I’m good. I mean this sneeze is killing me.
CALLER [00:52:13] I wasn’t sure I was going to get through, I heard everybody else getting through two three times. Didn’t seem like I was going to happen. But here we are.
CHRIS [00:52:19] Was it filling you with rage?
CALLER [00:52:23] No, no rage.
CHRIS [00:52:24] That’s OK.
CALLER [00:52:26] So I don’t really do resolutions, I guess, but I do have ongoing goals. Right now I’m chipping away at school, trying to balance mental health and getting cozy at my boyfriend’s place where I just moved in.
CHRIS [00:52:42] I love that.
CALLER [00:52:45] Yes.
CHRIS [00:52:46] How long have you and the boyfriend been together.
CALLER [00:52:48] Um not super long, this will be our ninth month, but I found mold in my apartment and had kind of had to skedaddle.
CHRIS [00:53:01] Well, if it’s not true love, then mold is the next best thing. Thank you so much for calling. You can quote me on that. Next caller. Welcome to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:53:14] Hi, is this me.
CHRIS [00:53:15] It is.
CALLER [00:53:17] Woah, my New Year’s resolution is to quit my job.
CHRIS [00:53:22] Yeah. OK, what’s wrong with the job?
CALLER [00:53:26] I’m like a person who’s cobbled together a lot of jobs for a long time and then a while ago, I got myself like a full time regular job and I’m like a writer and an artist and I I need to quit my regular job.
CHRIS [00:53:44] Yeah, you feel restrained. You need to spread those wings and fly. It’s time. Yeah, yeah, walk that tightrope of the artist’s life, but if it makes you happy, take the risk. I love it.
CALLER [00:53:58] Yeah, it’s cool when you say it out loud.
CHRIS [00:54:02] Yeah, what kind of art you make? Ten seconds left.
CALLER [00:54:06] I’m trying to write a novel.
CHRIS [00:54:08] Love it, can’t wait to read it. Thank you for calling. Next caller, welcome to the show. Happy New Year.
CALLER [00:54:17] Oh, my goodness, Gethard, hi I am so excited to talk to you.
CHRIS [00:54:21] I am excited to talk to you.
CALLER [00:54:24] This is going to sound really hippie dippy, but my resolution is to learn more about mushroom hunting so I don’t accidentally poison myself.
CHRIS [00:54:34] So you are real into foraging for mushrooms. You love a good forage.
CALLER [00:54:42] Yeah, I love going berry picking and like foraging for wild plants. And and so I’m just starting to learn more about mushrooms and it’s a scary new world and that’s my second resolution, is to be brave and not let anxiety hold me back.
CHRIS [00:54:59] I love that. And now when you say these mushrooms, you could accidentally pick a mushroom that might send you on a psychedelic trip. Is this a thing? Or would be like actual poisoning that could kill you.
CALLER [00:55:10] I don’t think those are very common where I live. I think people have to seek that those out.
CHRIS [00:55:17] So I hear many people do. I know I know many people who have in their lives. I’ve never gone there as someone who’s unstable mentally, it felt like a bad idea. Anyway, it’s not about me. Hello, welcome to the show. Happy New Year. What’s your resolution?
CALLER [00:55:31] Oh, hi.
CHRIS [00:55:32] Hi.
CALLER [00:55:32] How are you doing today?
CHRIS [00:55:34] I’m good. I have to sneeze, otherwise I’m good.
CALLER [00:55:37] Oh, bless you in advance.
CHRIS [00:55:40] Thank you so much.
CALLER [00:55:42] OK cool. Well, first of all, my New Year’s resolution from last year was to get into therapy, and I just accomplished that resolution in part thanks to you. So thank you very much.
CHRIS [00:55:54] I am very flattered to hear that and I hope it serves you well and makes you feel good.
CALLER [00:56:00] Yeah. So far so good. My news resolution for this year is to get more involved in my local volunteering because I just made a move from one city to another. So I was really involved in volunteering in the old city and hoping to get into it in my new city. So that is my New Year’s resolution.
CHRIS [00:56:19] I really love that. I hope it goes well. Have we spoken before?
CALLER [00:56:24] No, we definitely have not. We actually have met once, but I don’t want to say.
CHRIS [00:56:29] I knew it.
CALLER [00:56:32] But you would definitely not remember me. I was like a small role on a set that you were on.
CHRIS [00:56:39] But you’re saying I wouldn’t remember you. And yet I’m sitting here going, I know this person. So it sounds like I already did.
CALLER [00:56:47] I would be shocked, but who knows weirder things have happened.
CHRIS [00:56:51] What set? Oh god.
CALLER [00:56:51] It was for a movie.
CHRIS [00:56:57] I haven’t been in many movies. Was it Don’t Think Twice?
CALLER [00:57:00] It was.
CHRIS [00:57:01] I see I remember this. You and I have had a face to face conversation.
CALLER [00:57:09] We have.
CHRIS [00:57:12] Multiple.
CALLER [00:57:14] No.
CHRIS [00:57:14] Just one?
CALLER [00:57:16] Well, I think just one. Oh, gosh.
CHRIS [00:57:18] This is driving me nuts. I knew I knew you. I knew I’d met you in person. Wow.
CALLER [00:57:25] Wow, this is I’m shook, I, I, I’m shook.
CHRIS [00:57:30] No, I knew.
CALLER [00:57:31] I would not think you would remember that.
CHRIS [00:57:32] Well, it’s going to drive me nuts forever. Good luck in the new city. That blew my mind. I knew it. I said I’ve met this person. OK. Hello. Welcome to the show. Next caller.
CALLER [00:57:43] Well, it’s me, OK. Hey.
CHRIS [00:57:47] Hi.
CALLER [00:57:48] Can you hear me?
CHRIS [00:57:48] Yep.
CALLER [00:57:48] Hi. I got a few resolutions. I’ve got to take my health more seriously. I’m almost twenty six and my knees already hurt. That’s not fun. I got to lock that all down, I want to take more compassionate actions like in my community and then go from part time job stuff to like an actual career. So hopefully that’ll work out.
CHRIS [00:58:13] Big, all big game changers. I love that, yeah, yeah, yeah. Watch those knees!
CALLER [00:58:19] I got a question for you. I haven’t written stuff in a while and I want to, but what should I write?
CHRIS [00:58:26] What should you write? A graphic novel, a graphic novel.
CALLER [00:58:31] All right I’ll do it, I’ll do it for you, all right man thanks so much
CHRIS [00:58:35] Send me a copy when it’s done. Thank you so much. Happy New Year. Next caller, welcome to the show. What is your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [00:58:42] Hello.
CHRIS [00:58:43] Hi.
CALLER [00:58:43] Chris.
CHRIS [00:58:45] Yeah.
CALLER [00:58:47] I discovered your show in May when I was first venturing outside, and it was a lifesaver. So it’s so exciting to talk to you. Today is my grandmother’s 92nd birthday and she just had her first short story accepted for publication.
CHRIS [00:59:02] That’s awesome. Happy birthday, Grandma.
CALLER [00:59:07] Yeah, it’s pretty cool. So what am I. I’m just inspired by that to like, create more art and get stuff out in the world. I also just started a nonprofit this year. So my goal is not to let it fail. And yeah. And to keep going forward with that.
CHRIS [00:59:25] That’s so cool. What kind of stuff does your nonprofit focus on?
CALLER [00:59:29] We work with kids who are sick or have serious illnesses and help them write their own songs and create music and tell their stories.
CHRIS [00:59:37] That’s absolutely beautiful. Thank you for your service to the world. I’m being told that at some point we need to, uh, we need to wind this down. We’ve been gone about an hour. So if you’re on the line right now and you can hear me, we’re gonna do our best to get to you. We probably will. Anybody who’s joining after this is probably going to get cut off is what I’m being told. So congratulations, everybody who’s in there under the wire. Let’s get to the next caller. Hello. Welcome to the show. Happy New Year.
CALLER [01:00:06] Oh, hi, Chris, how are you?
CHRIS [01:00:08] I’m good.
CALLER [01:00:10] Good, my New Year’s I guess resolution, or plan is to finish my Ph.D. and graduate with my doctorate.
CHRIS [01:00:19] Got to get past that board, do that dissertation. I hear that’s stressful.
CALLER [01:00:23] Yeah the big defense at the end of it. Yeah, it is. It’s been a long time coming, so just sort of finished the first draft and then got to iron out the details and hopefully next year will be the year.
CHRIS [01:00:36] Congrats. Can I ask what your doctorate will be in.
CALLER [01:00:40] Yeah, it’s in art history, but more specifically in archeology.
CHRIS [01:00:45] I love that. And hey, when you hear these people going, Dr. Jill Biden shouldn’t call herself doctor, do you want to just throw a brick through a window?
CALLER [01:00:55] Yes. Yes. My Twitter feed has been going crazy.
CHRIS [01:00:59] Yeah, I can imagine you’re going to get your doctorate. And, you know, I’m gonna let you stay on the line so you can hear this. You worked hard to earn that doctorate. And guess what, everybody? Dr. Jill Biden earned it and worked hard too and works at a community college and has dedicated her life to education. And I think you, everybody needs to show some respect personally. And that extends to you as well caller.
CALLER [01:01:22] Totally. Exactly.
CHRIS [01:01:22] Yeah. Happy New Year, Doctor. Dr. Archeology. Thank you. I can’t wait until that is the truth. OK, next caller, welcome to the show. Happy New Year. What’s your resolution?
CALLER [01:01:35] Hello.
CHRIS [01:01:36] Hi.
CALLER [01:01:37] Hi, first, I just want to say thank you for everything you do with this show, I think along with many others and myself, it helps me get through my day sometimes. So thank you for that.
CHRIS [01:01:49] I’m lucky to do it.
CALLER [01:01:50] And my my New Year’s resolution is to continue to get into the best shape of my life. I did a good job starting that in 2020 and not take things so personally. You know, kind of forget everyone else’s feelings about me and only my opinions matters. So think more positively about myself. I guess.
CHRIS [01:02:08] Those matter, those sound just like mine. I did a good job getting healthy this year. I want to continue that. I’ve been slipping a little. Thank you for the reminder. And yeah, let other people’s opinions go. Same. Same. I let myself get caught up in that a lot this year. I’m with you. I’m going to steal your resolutions.
CALLER [01:02:24] Definitely so. Well, well, good luck to yours and thank you again.
CHRIS [01:02:29] Thank you so much for the kind words. That’s really nice. I’m so lucky to do this. I think those are mine right. Continue that thing. Get back on the horse with the health stuff because I did good living healthy. Let other people’s opinions go. Enjoy the roadways and a cool, smooth Ford Focus and pull off, look at beautiful vistas and write down what I see in my funky notebook. Hello, welcome caller to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution? [SILENCE] Oh, mysterious.
CALLER [01:02:59] Hello.
CHRIS [01:03:00] HI hello.
CALLER [01:03:00] Oh, my God. Hello.
CHRIS [01:03:01] Yeah, hi.
CALLER [01:03:02] Oh, my God. Hi. Oh, my God. How are you, Chris?
CHRIS [01:03:05] I’m feeling great. Usually I crap out about halfway through this type of episode. But, you know, I’m just so excited in 2020 to connect to so many people at the end of this awful year.
CALLER [01:03:17] That’s great. It sounds really nice to do that. I guess my New Year’s resolution. Well, this year, this past year, my resolution was to kind of do a thing every month that would kind of change my appearance on the outside to match my appearance on the inside or at least how I felt on the inside. And with all the pandemic stuff happening, I couldn’t do a lot of that stuff because some of that included, like getting a tattoo and things like that. But I cut my hair. So that’s good. I guess in terms of this year, I’m going to try to do less things that used to bring me joy or some kind of happiness but don’t anymore. So things like sitting on Twitter or watching Netflix throughout the day instead of going outside and like living life in general, I’m going to try to do a lot less of that and a lot more things that make me happy and make me smile.
CHRIS [01:04:16] I love it.
CALLER [01:04:17] And that’s about it.
CHRIS [01:04:18] You’re going, you’re going to do like a Marie Kondo on your life, but with with your activities and choices instead of t shirts. I love that. Thank you so much for calling.
CALLER [01:04:27] Yeah. Yeah. Pretty much.
CHRIS [01:04:29] All right. Next caller, welcome to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [01:04:34] Hi. Oh my gosh, I’m so excited. OK. I was just looking at my husband like I have to figure out a resolution, but I have two, so I just had a baby.
CHRIS [01:04:46] Congrats.
CALLER [01:04:47] He’s only four weeks old. Thank you.
CHRIS [01:04:50] That’s awesome.
CALLER [01:04:50] I was excited when you when you had yours it was exciting. So just learning to become a good mom. I had the best mom ever. And so that’s one of my resolutions. And I would love to travel if we if this pandemic allows here in the next year, I want to get back to traveling. So those are my resolutions.
CHRIS [01:05:12] That’s bold. You have a four week old child and you also want to travel that I haven’t had a meal without someone screaming or throwing things at me since April of 2019.
CALLER [01:05:27] Yeah, that’s going to be interesting, learning how to travel with him, but I, I never did when I was younger, so I definitely want him to see the world.
CHRIS [01:05:35] I love that. I hope you pull it off. And I hope that little guy is a citizen of the world. Beautiful, beautiful impulse. Thank you for calling. Next caller, welcome to the show. Happy New Year. What’s your resolution?
CALLER [01:05:47] Hello.
CHRIS [01:05:48] Hi. Hello, I heard you.
CALLER [01:05:52] Oh, hi.
CHRIS [01:05:53] Hi. How’s it going?
CALLER [01:05:56] Hi, Chris.
CHRIS [01:05:57] Yeah, hi.
CALLER [01:06:00] Is it me?
CHRIS [01:06:00] It is, it’s you, yeah, yeah, it’s been you for 20 seconds.
CALLER [01:06:04] Oh, hi, Chris. Oh sorry. I’ve wasted so much time.
CHRIS [01:06:08] Yeah, yeah.
CALLER [01:06:09] My plan is to spend some more time with my teenage boys because I just can’t believe how much time I spend with work these days, it’s just so easy to get sucked into my work and especially being a health care worker this year. It’s just so busy at work. And everyone says that they they grow up in the blink of an eye. But like now that I’ve got one who’s finished school this year, it’s just so easy to to see just how quickly they grow up.
CHRIS [01:06:45] Wow. I love that resolution.
CALLER [01:06:47] I’m not sure how much those teenage boys want to spend with their mum but i got to find some things to do with them before they’re actually moved out.
CALLER [01:06:47] I’m not sure how much those teenage boys want to spend with their mom, but I’ve got to try to find them before they’ve actually moved out.
CHRIS [01:06:56] I love that. Good luck. I hope that they are accommodating to your goals on this. And isn’t that, here’s one thing I’m learning everybody, because we only have a few more left in the queue. It sounds like we as a culture have really, 2020 is making all of us reexamine our relationship with work. And that’s myself included. And what what an interesting thing. That’s been an unfolding theme here this year. Welcome to the show. Next caller, what’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [01:07:26] Hello.
CHRIS [01:07:27] Hi.
CALLER [01:07:28] Hello. Chris, is that you?
CHRIS [01:07:31] Yeah, it’s me.
CALLER [01:07:32] Wow, cool, neat. Hi I kept jumping in when everyone else would say hello and had like a pause beforehand. I thought it was my turn. Hi. So it’s funny. My New Year’s resolution is to finally, at thirty seven years old, as of yesterday, learn an instrument. And I’ve decided to start with the ukulele because it’s small and I have a really crappy one. So I figured if I get good enough to justify buying an OK one in the future, that’ll be good progress.
CHRIS [01:08:00] I love that. Happy birthday. And you know, my wife put out a bunch of instructional ukulele videos years ago. So you can look those up, she can help you learn.
CALLER [01:08:08] Really?
CHRIS [01:08:09] Yeah Hallie’s ukulele army
CALLER [01:08:12] Hallie’s ukulele army, I will not forget that, I’m gonna look it up.
CHRIS [01:08:15] Yeah.
CALLER [01:08:15] Yeah. And the reason for kind of wanting to do that now is last year, the leader of our musical team, let’s call it. So my friends are all musicians and they get together. But the guy who kind of spearheads it all and holds it together got a really severe brain tumor.
CHRIS [01:08:33] Oh no.
CALLER [01:08:34] And he had surgery and chemo and radiation and everything. He’s doing really well. But it’s not a long term. You know, you can’t really look ahead long term with that sort of thing. So I think music is going to be something that’s really going to hold our group together and it’s just going to be the positive thing in the healing time and in whatever happens in the future. And I think it’ll be really good for my husband and my’s relationship too because this year has been tricky.
CHRIS [01:09:02] I love it. The world needs more music. I hope that you honor your friend. I hope that you and your husband connect. That’s a beautiful thought. Good luck to you. Next caller, welcome to the show. I think we only have two or three left. Let’s go ahead and hear from it. Finishing up. Welcome to the show. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [01:09:21] Hello?
CHRIS [01:09:21] Yeah, hi.
CALLER [01:09:21] Hi. So I’m trying to let go of perfection. And it’s I guess there’s a there’s a lot behind that. That choice that I think I would I would love to talk to you about on a full call sometime, so fingers crossed for that. But I’ve been making progress on just kind of taking what’s going on and living with it in the present and controlling what I can and not getting too wrapped up in what I can’t.
CHRIS [01:09:53] I love that. How long have you been a perfectionist? Has this been your whole life?
CALLER [01:09:58] Oh, man, I think a really long time. But I think I was in denial about it until until I was diagnosed with cancer and I realized that.
CHRIS [01:10:11] Oh I’m sorry.
CALLER [01:10:13] Well, the great news is that I’m currently cancer free for over a year. So, yeah, it’s great. But that really just put things into perspective and made me realize, like, you know, I can’t I can’t force this to go away.
CHRIS [01:10:28] Yeah.
CALLER [01:10:29] And I can’t I can’t force a lot of things in my life. Actually, it made me realize, like, it’s not just an illness. It’s like there’s so much that a lot of energy is put on that maybe I shouldn’t have.
CHRIS [01:10:43] Mm hmm. Good luck with it. I love that.
CALLER [01:10:47] But..
CHRIS [01:10:48] Oh, coldhearted. Anita Flores, look at that. Everybody, let’s take note. Anita Flores just hung up on a cancer survivor. Wow. Wow. Anita’s got some other stuff to do today, I guess. Wow, no, of course. That sound we all can tell that sounded like the natural end point. We will almost definitely edit out the part where I just threw Anita under the bus that hard for my own amusement. I could see her reaction on Zoom. And, uh, and it was it was worth it for me, but we could cut that out because Anita almost definitely hated that. Next caller, welcome to the show.
CALLER [01:11:30] Chris?
CHRIS [01:11:33] Yeah, hi.
CALLER [01:11:35] Hello. Hi. I’m so excited to talk to you. I actually had a dream the other night that I got on the show, so I guess it’s playing out.
CHRIS [01:11:44] Yeah, I love that.
CALLER [01:11:46] Yeah. So my big 3 0 birthday is next year. So my New Year’s resolution for next year is to get my yoga certification as part of my retirement plan. So I’m really excited to start my journey doing that. And then along with that, I’m just loving myself more and practicing more mindfulness. So that’s my New Year’s resolution, I’m excited for 2021.
CHRIS [01:12:15] I love this. You’re planning your retirement at 29. That rules.
CALLER [01:12:21] Yeah. I’ve always been a planner, I’m a project manager so that’s, that’s my life.
CHRIS [01:12:26] I love it. Well good luck. Mindfulness and yoga. It sounds very healthy. I love that. Happy New Year. Let’s go ahead. Next caller, welcome to the show. We’re only taking a couple more of these. Welcome. How are you?
CALLER [01:12:42] Oh, hello how are you?
CHRIS [01:12:44] I’m good.
CALLER [01:12:45] It’s exciting to speak to you finally.
CHRIS [01:12:49] What was that?
CALLER [01:12:49] This is actually my time calling. I said it’s exciting to speak to you. Finally.
CHRIS [01:12:54] I love it.
CALLER [01:12:55] You might not understand me because I’m from Scotland, but I have listened and you’ve already said you’ve been here, so you might know it. You understan?
CHRIS [01:13:04] I spent some time in Edinburgh and I, I, it took me a second. But I do understand you. Although are you more you got more of a Glasgow thing going on.
CALLER [01:13:13] Yeah, some Glasgow, but I’m trying to speak a bit, you know, slower, just know this is like half speed. So I’m actually moving flat tomorrow. So I’m in the middle of packing just now and left a bit late. But that’s OK.
CHRIS [01:13:28] Now, listen, I’m going to give you more time, so you just explain that tomorrow you’re packing up your flat, moving, right. And you slowed down a lot. So my American ears could understand it. Now, if you hadn’t slowed down, what would that have sounded like.
CALLER [01:13:40] Erm probably like double speed, we speak very fast.
CHRIS [01:13:45] Let’s hear it. Let’s hear it.
CALLER [01:13:47] And so I am moving into a new flat, which is in the city center of Glasgow, so it’s a bit different like living in the city, but I’m excited. And New Year, perfect time to move, I’ll be in the flat for the new year. So, yes, exciting.
CHRIS [01:14:09] I love that. Starting off the New Year, new beginning, new physical location. I think that’s amazing.
CALLER [01:14:15] And then I did a meditation last night that was for the full moon, or not the full moon, the winter solstice last night. So from today in Scotland the days are going to get more bright. So last, yesterday was the shortest period of the year. So from today onwards, then the days will get longer and the days will get brighter so it won’t be so dark all the time here.
CHRIS [01:14:41] I love that to hear you say. What was it, the days will get longer and the days will get brighter.
CALLER [01:14:51] So it’s the perfect time to meditate. In the shortest day in the year. So yes.
CHRIS [01:14:57] I love that. Now, you know, everybody in Edinburgh makes fun of everybody in Glasgow, right?
CALLER [01:15:04] Yeah, there’s some conflict, I guess you could call it. You know, people in Edinburgh would say stuff about people in Glasgow and then people in Glasgow will say different things that. Have you been to Glasgow yourself?
CHRIS [01:15:22] I haven’t, but I’d love to go there. It sounds like I feel like from what I’ve heard, it’s a little bit more like New Jersey. It’s a little bit more.
CALLER [01:15:32] Yeah, definitely.
CHRIS [01:15:33] Definitely proudly rough around the edges. We might not have good manners, but they have big hearts.
CALLER [01:15:39] Exactly. It’s a city where everyone’s welcome. And it’s very good for the arts, for music and comedy and art. And, um, yes, lots of the arts is going on. Especially like and yeah, when you’re young, definitely.
CHRIS [01:16:00] And those snooty bastards up in Edinburgh can say what they want. We’re not we’re not these we’re not these rough and tumble uncultured people that they claim, although you’re much too nice to say that yourself, I can tell.
CALLER [01:16:14] Exactly exactly.
CHRIS [01:16:16] All right. Well, thank you so much for the call. I think it’s become clear Anita is hanging up on noone moving forward. Anita’s never, never again. No I said we’ll give it a longer one, OK. Hello. Next caller, welcome to the show. How are you? What’s your New Year’s resolution?
CALLER [01:16:34] Hey, Chris. So I called with the Don’t Say the C word episode, and I’m the person who is 2-year-old daughter hugs her sculptures. I don’t know if you remember that one.
CHRIS [01:16:47] Hello, welcome back.
CALLER [01:16:51] Hi nice to talk to you again.
CHRIS [01:16:52] And my New Year’s resolution was to make more art. And I did do that. I want to keep it up. But I also want to add I’m doing some journaling, too this year. I feel like I use social media as a place to journal, but I’d rather it be like all in one notebook, for just my eyes only. So yeah those are the things I’m looking for.
CHRIS [01:17:22] I love that. And I have a similar thing where I’ve been really into the idea lately. I want to make my life smaller, less for public consumption, more for me. I’m with you. I’m with you. Beautiful one. All right. This might be the last one. Hello. Welcome to the show. I mean, Jared has places to go, things to do. Anita, Anita’s now deeply in our own head. Everything’s getting wild around here. I’m also being told that there’s no more callers on the line after this one. So that also is a good sign that this will be the last one. And I want to thank everybody for calling. Hello. You’re our final caller on this year’s New Year’s episode. What’s up?
CALLER [01:18:05] Oh, how exciting is it me?
CHRIS [01:18:07] Yeah, it’s you.
CALLER [01:18:10] Oh, gosh, I’m almost speechless. OK, my new New Year’s resolution is to live life, look for the good in everything, be happy and be positive getting ready for my hip replacement that I’m due to have in the next couple of months.
CHRIS [01:18:31] I tell you, my mom had a hip replacement and she was so nervous and it vastly improved her life. And I hope it happens for you, too.
CALLER [01:18:41] Oh, I just so hope it does. It’s it’s a wee bit miserable now, and I’m so nervous about it, but I know it’s going to be good.
CHRIS [01:18:53] I think it’s going to go great. I’m rooting hard for you. I think it’s going to just ease a lot of the pain out of your life. And hopefully that hip will be working and fully functioning and able to step down on the gas pedal of a nice, luxurious Ford Focus. I want to thank everybody for calling, everybody for writing in your funky notebooks. And it was really I do have to say, these episodes are always fun. They’re always a good time, always special to me. But I did. I said it halfway through because I really realized it. We have all been so isolated from each other. So to talk to that many people and just realize how big the world is and there’s still people out there feeling optimistic and hoping for good things and hoping for new things. Beautiful. Thank you, everybody, for sharing with me. What a great way to end the nightmare year and hopefully begin a new one where the days are longer and the days are brighter. Thanks for listening, everybody.
CHRIS [01:19:55] Thank you again to all of our callers. Good luck to all of you who are getting hip replacements and having kids and starting new jobs and moving to new places. And just everybody, good luck with everything, and I cannot wait to move on from this year. Thank you to Jared O’Connell, to Anita Flores, to Jordan Allyn to Shellshag.
