EP. 9 — My Job Was Killing People: 3 Soldiers Tell Us Everything (S1E9)

What is it like to kill a person? When you meet a soldier or a police officer who’s seen some shit, that question at least crosses your mind. But it’s also something you’re unlikely to ask. There’s no real polite way to bring it up. So on today’s episode of Cracked Gets Personal, Robert Evans and Brandon Johnson ask three sources that question so you don’t have to. We talk to a former Navy SEAL sniper, a man who helped organize drone strikes, and a current doctor and former soldier who stabbed a man in the head with a damn knife. If you want to know what Hollywood gets wrong about killing, how it really feels and so much more, listen on.

If you’ve seen any news reports from Vice, The New York Times, or National Geographic about the fighting against ISIS, you might imagine the work is largely due to the brave actions of a few hard-bitten square-jawed war correspondents. Those guys are important. But they don’t go anywhere, or get any stories, without the help of a handful of twenty-something kids trying to pay their way through college. On the season finale of Cracked Gets Personal, Brandon Johnson and Robert Evans talk about “fixers”. These young men found themselves going to school an hour away from the center of a vicious civil war. And instead of dropping out, they took on the war as a part time gig. Their stories are bizarre, baffling, often hilarious and you won’t hear them anywhere but Cracked Gets Personal.

It’s not exactly easy to be a transgender person in 2017. But at least now everyone knows what the word transgender means. Back in the 60s, 70s and 80s, the word ‘transgender’ and the concept of trans rights didn’t really exist. Today on Cracked Gets Personal, Brandon Johnson and Robert Evans talk to three women who transitioned during this time, which has been nicknamed the ‘trans dark ages’. They survived physical assaults, paparazzi shaming, black market hormone buys and so much more. Now they’re telling their stories.

Slavery is something you’d hope the U.S. had already done a pretty complete job of stomping out. But it turns out there are still tens of thousands of enslaved people in our country right now. And on this episode of Cracked Gets Personal, our hosts Robert Evans and Brandon Johnson talk to two of them. You’ll hear from a woman who was tricked, and then forced, to work as a prostitute against her will. And you’ll hear from a woman who entered the United States legally and found herself trapped in a factory, forced against her will to make clothing for your favorite retailers. If you’ve ever wanted a look inside the dark, weird underworld of human trafficking, Cracked Gets Personal is about to take you there.
