EP. 18 — Book Club 6: Tender Is The Night

Nate is joined by a couple of Reading Aloud Book Club virgins, Mike Still, Susanna Fogel, and Lindsey Kraft for the 6th edition of the Book Club series of Reading Aloud in which they discuss the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel “Tender Is The Night.” They’ll talk about the amazing first ten pages, how the characters Dick and Nicole mirror the real life couple Zelda and Fitzgerald, why you shouldn’t date your therapist, and listener questions. As a send off, Nate reads “Behold Your Newest Silver-Screen Sex Goddess, Jane Neighbor” by writer and playwright Rachel Axler (Veep), an excerpt from the novel Stoner by writer John Williams, and the first letter from “Letters to a Young Poet” written by poet Rainer Maria Rilke to Franz Xaver Kappus.

Timothy Simons barges in not wasting any time and gets into a live reading of “I’m Comic Sans, Asshole.” by Mike Lacher. Then, Robyn Clark treats us to a reading of “I Saw Hamilton So Now I’m Going To Orphan My Son” by Katie Schorr. Later, Nate reads a chapter from the novel The Friends of Eddie Coyle by George V. Higgins. Finally, in honor of the 4th of July, Robert Baker walks through a patriotic reading of the Declaration of Independence.
