EP. 48 — The Empire Strikes Back with Clive Revill

On the second of three very special Star Wars trilogy episodes of I Was There Too, Matt is joined by Clive Revill who voices The Emperor in the pre-special edition 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back. Clive tells us about how director Irvin Kershner reached out to him for the role, finding the voice for The Emperor, and his thoughts on the final physical representation. Then, expert witnesses Pete the Retailer and Alex Robinson of the Star Wars Minute podcast join Matt to figure out who and actually what played the body of The Emperor during a new segment called Was I There Too? Plus, another classic Star Wars Superego sketch!

For the 100th and final (for now) episode of I Was There Too, Matt finally gets to sit down with his long-sought guest, actress Brooke Smith. She joins Matt to discuss her role as Catherine Martin aka the girl in the well in the 1991 horror film The Silence of the Lambs. Catherine chats about having to gain weight for the role, reading with three different actors all going out for the Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb role, and how director Jonathan Demme made her confront her demons. Plus, Matt bids farewell (for now) to all the wonderful listeners!
